FAQ's

Trading, by definition, consists of carrying out transactions on the various financial markets, such as currencies, equities, commodities, bonds, as well as contracts and options. The term encompasses all operations carried out between buyers and sellers, with the aim of profiting from fluctuations in the value of the assets traded. Unlike long-term stock market investment, trading takes place over periods ranging from a few minutes to a few weeks, and is thus characterized by short-term speculation.

A trade is a complete operation on the financial markets, encompassing the purchase and sale of an asset such as a share. For example, buying a share at €100 and selling it at €105 is a trade. This notion encompasses all transactions, including reverse transactions. Shorting a share, for example, consists in speculating on its fall, enabling you to sell the share (which you don’t own) and buy it back later at a more advantageous price.

The term “trader” can have two meanings. As a noun, it refers to the person engaged in trading, often called a “trader” or market operator. As a verb, “trader” represents the action of carrying out operations on the financial markets, synonymous with “operating on the financial markets”.

How to trade is often the first question we ask ourselves when we become interested in the subject. But the most fundamental question to ask before you start trading is what kind of training you need. Thorough training and the adoption of an appropriate methodology are essential if you are to perform well on the financial markets and quickly achieve profitability. The steps involved in becoming a trader include training, the use of appropriate software or platforms, the acquisition of suitable equipment, practice on a demo account, the transition to a real account, constant analysis, and professional guidance.

There are two ways to become a trader: pursue higher education in related fields such as finance, economics and management, or attend a trading school to learn the trade from a professional trader or former trader.

To master trading properly and become profitable, you need to devote at least 12 months to learning. Although the basics can be learned quickly, profitability and full understanding of the concepts require an average of one year. To reach expert trader status, several years of learning are required.

Trading is not guaranteed to be profitable for everyone, but with the right training, a solid foundation and serious application of proven methods, trading can be profitable. Serious commitment and hours dedicated to learning and applying the methods recommended by experienced peers are essential.

There are various trading styles to suit the personality and investment style of each trader, taking into account the amount of time devoted to the activity. The five main trading styles are scalping, day trading, swing trading, news trading and position trading.
– Scalping: Scalping is a very short-term trading strategy in which the trader seeks to profit from small price fluctuations over very short periods of time. Scalpers generally make numerous trades over the course of a day, exploiting small price movements.
– Day trading: Day trading involves opening and closing positions on the financial markets during the same trading day. Day traders seek to profit from intraday price movements and avoid holding positions overnight.
– Swing trading: Swing trading involves capturing larger price movements that occur over a period of several days to a few weeks. Swing traders aim to profit from short- and medium-term trends by holding positions longer than day traders.
– News trading: News trading relies on the analysis of news, economic events and corporate announcements to make trading decisions. News traders seek to anticipate price movements based on economic and geopolitical developments.
– Position trading: Position trading involves holding positions over longer periods of time, often from several months to several years – similar to stock market investing. Position traders seek to capture major trends and profit from long-term price movements.

Day trading is a style in which the trader will mainly hold positions for the day, the aim being to avoid being affected by movements or analyses made by other traders after the markets have closed. This is an advanced style practiced by experts and intermediate traders. It is not suitable for beginners. The gains are big, but so are the losses if you don’t master it. Stress levels are also high. Day trading requires a great deal of concentration and time for trading, which can be estimated at several hours a day, or even the whole day (until the markets close).

Swing trading is a trading style whose practitioner is called a swing trader. It aims to generate short- and medium-term gains on the stock market or other financial securities. The holding period for financial products can range from a few days to several weeks. This is known as short- and medium-term investing. Swing traders mainly use technical analysis to look for opportunities. They may also use fundamental analysis to complement trend analysis and price patterns, which they analyze primarily through technical analysis. Economic and political announcements can also be used for swing trading.

The choice of trading equipment is of crucial importance to the trader’s working comfort. Suitable equipment, such as multiple screens, enables the necessary data to be analyzed efficiently, avoiding wasted time and optimizing performance. Unsuitable equipment will frustrate the trader, who will have to constantly juggle numerous tabs on his browser or software to search for the information he needs to trade. This can lead to missed opportunities.

Trading requires the use of a software program, application or website. This interface provides access to the financial markets, giving the trader access to stock market prices and charting tools. This enables the trader to view prices, adding indicators and signals. Finally, these analyses will enable the trader to position himself effectively on the stock markets to make informed decisions.
